My broadband is back
« on: 18 June 2008, 21:24:39 »

... but I haven't really got anything to say at the moment. :(

I took my life in my hands and rang the Mumbai call centre - I had to wait about 10 minutes (listening to the same awful music they've been playing for the last 4 years), but then I got through to someone who actually knew what was going on, ran the speed tests from their end, diagnosed the problem and fixed it!

Apparently you need to reset your modem occasionally or it sees you have have had a steady connection for a long time and downgrades you.  The connection stays up at 4.5Mbps, but throughput is throttled back to 135Kbps.  I'm not actually sure I believe this, but my throughput is now running at 3.3Mbps, so I'm not complaining. :) :) :)

For once... :) :) :)

My wireless access point is past its best. I should just buy a new one, as it keeps freezing, if I change its IP or enable WEP it dies...

Just over a year ago, the PSU gave up (its now wired directly to a 12v out on the servers PSU!)

About 6 months ago, I got so mad with it I chucked it on the floor (thing all fell apart, with bits hanging out!  ;D)

This morning laptop wouldn't connect to it again!  >:(
