d v l a insurance details
« on: 14 July 2014, 20:32:03 »

Just been reading about the d v l a setting up a web site  ( my licence ) that all insurance companies will be able to look at all applications for car insurance made by the public so that they can check the list to see if we are lying about our details..such as how many points we have.....how long we have held a licence and  type of licence, any motoring convictions..because at the moment they can only do a limited check and that is expensive.....We as the public will be able to look up our own details on a site .d v l a .will start next month called (view driver record ) just to make sure that those details are correct and if not then we have a chance to correct them......So with all driver records open to all insurance companies what is the general opinion as to the security of our details  held to see.. :-\

About as secure as these details are now. ie, not very - this is managed by civil servants after all.

But there appears to be no new info being held, just that insurance will be able to check for porkies when you go to make a claim (the only time they will check)

When SWMBO insured her new car, the insurers required copies of both our licences, photo & counterpart  :-\

Also the VIC check for cat C - D cars I going in 2015.  :) :) :)

It appears DVLA/VOSA can't do what they're already supposed to be doing. A few weeks back we got a letter suggesting that there wasn't any insurance on it ....... there was! A phone call to the insurers sorted that. And the other day I got a letter from a local-ish recovery firm re my old Omega, presumably they got my details from DVLA. It was DVLA that sent me an acknowledgment that I was no longer the owner  :-\
