head gasket help
« on: 04 August 2014, 21:23:08 »

my s reg 2.5 elite is using water(topping up every couple of days) but no sign of a leak.....takes longer than usual to start up.....when I topped the water up,i left her running for a few minutes, then the expansion tank over flowed...is this normal or am I in trouble.....there is no oil/water contam....no white smoke...doesn't seem to have lost any power(yet)...im hoping its something else as I cant afford to have her off the road.....any ideas guys.....  :'( ...oh and ive just had the water pump replaced after it went kaput last week.....

I take it that there's no other HG-like symptoms such as over heating, water in oil, rough idling, misfiring etc.?

If not then I'd be looking at HBV. Have a quick look around the bell housing. if there's coolant dripping off there its probably HBV.  :y

What he said ^ :y

Many an omega has been wrongly diagnosed with a failed head gasket, as "there's no water on the floor" .....check hbv with engine running and up to temp, and toggle the ac between hi and lo checking each time. Carefull though as it get warm around there and any leaks of coolant will be hot.
