Squawky indicator switch
« on: 07 October 2014, 18:38:59 »

When indicating left, applying light pressure to the indicator stalk there's a really irritating electrical squawking noise.  This has been a "feature" of all 3 Omega's I've owned thus far.  Am I just unlucky or do they all do it?  And is there a cure because it's really really really annoying!  >:(

You can open the stalk/switch and clean and somewhat refurb it. Some pins inside need a little bending. I have once or twice managed to cure this symptom. Though a new stalk is no tthat expensive but if you can take it as a hobby you will have a good result,.

It could be that the presure you put on the stalk on a left turn is lighter than for a right turn causing the noise through electrical shorting. Just my thoughts

Interesting. So new ones don't do it ?  :-\

Andy / Keith,  point taken, however having driven many and various vehicles over the years, none of which exhibit the same trait (except Vx)... I'm forced to conclude that it's shite lowest bidder design rather than bad technique.  :P

New one on me. On any omega, or I've never noticed.

The springs inside the stalk switch get tired over the years causing intermittent contact, that's why it makes the noise. Just pop it open, slightly bend the contacts back to original positions, re-grease it and it shall work as new for a few years at least.
