Might of been mentioned or not, lot of text on this one.

I had regular customers with older vehicles that i don't any more. The reason being as they went out and bought these kia things with there 7 year warranty. They don't keep them seven years, just trade them in for a newer one now and again. Slightly different price scale in know. If you really need the peace of mind then getting a nearly new still under warranty whether it be VAG brand or consider a Jap motor.

Tidla - but you lose on depreciation in your scenario unless you stick to the lower spec models . A decent Kia Sportage nearly new with decent spec will still be around £16 -20k  and you will lose £2-3k per year even at that price plus you will already be 2 years into your warranty.

I am thinking of taking the risk and having no warranty - old one has now expired. But still very much in the balance as my renewal quote is  for 30 days from 23rd Dec.

I think (joking aside) we'd all feel pretty bad if we unanimously told you to forget the warranty, and in a month the engine goes pop. However, I'd tend to say if the Phaeton is the Omega-replacer that you hope it to be - then you shouldn't need a warranty (and there can't be many contenders, I've really thought the Phaeton, and maybe a big Volvo are the only cars left that are without a swanky-doo-dah bagde, but are still fine reliable cars in their own right. Perhaps a Skoda Superb if you wanted to go a car size down, but that's about it.)

I know that's perhaps a little trite of me to say 'you don't need a warranty' - of course any new car/product should have one - but clearly this hasn't been a 'Friday Car' for you, and hasn't cost you a penny in unexpected costs, it's clearly a reliable, good motor, so there's nothing to suggest that with regular servicing, and all the maintenance that you should do, this car won't one day appear in your will  :y

Also, I'd say that as these cars get older, Phaeton versions of OOF will appear and grow in strength and number, and all them little niggles which will invariably appear, can be sorted with clever hacks, and ingenious methods, as with the Omega. VAG is a brilliant company, and really makes sure their quality remains where it is. I could tell you a couple of stories of their fastidiousness (I know an ex-Head Designer) and if I weren't a Vauxhall man, I'd for sure be a VW nut  8)

There is a Phaeton user forum which is reasonably helpful but quite a small market of course and mainly US based where NO new Phaetons have been sold for 8 years or so. Some hefty bills on the V12s out there.

I think I will go with no warranty unless one of the comprehensive ones reduces in price quite a lot.

Great news. I'd definitely make your own 'private warranty' free from the prying hands of any wives or children you may have floating around, of course! That way you've got that little safety net that builds up. As for support, shouldn't there be a good supply of info from A8 forums, too? Appreciate there'll be a lot different, but the Phaeton, A8, Continental GT do all share the same platform, so there will be some common components/mods. Like the odd Landy TD owner being on here, because of the shared engine, that sort of thing.

I would ask local Vw dealer to tailor a warranty to suit you. That way you can be sure that the bits that need covering are based on your usage :-\
