Must admit, in the year or so I did run Vista, never really had any issues with it, Software or Security, it was a bit resource hungry though.

It did need better hardware than XP (as does Win7, but we'd all got better hardware by then), which need impact those trying to install the OS on older hardware.  Often the case when the kernel goes through a major revision, eg NT4 to NT5 (W2K and XP) to NT6 (Vista/W7/W8)
