father in laws car
« on: 05 February 2015, 15:50:52 »

This has been sitting on his drive since last august after his heart attack. He now wants to drive again well the carhas a total flat battery so I know that will need replacing. My question is should I do anything else before he drives it like start it and allow it to tick over for a while to allow the oil and fluid to recurculate.

I wouldn't say it needs much if it'd previously been looked after. Check the fluids, obviously, and take it to a garage and brim it with fresh petrol first trip out, in case what's in the tank is a bit stale. Be prepared for a bit of tappet noise if it has hydraulics.

If you're feeling really keen you could remove the plugs and squirt a little oil into each bore before starting it.

EDIT: Goes without saying that tyre pressures, etc. will need attention, and you might find the brakes / clutch are siezed on, so be prepared to have to sort that out.
