Put the omega 2.2i 2003 through the MOT and it passed. 

Had two advisory's though.

Nearside and offside front lower (front) suspension arm rubber bushes deteriorated.

What bushes are they referring to? Are there any photos available of what they look like and are they a DIY job?

Replace with poly bushes for longevity and simplicity

Front wishbone, front bush. Easiest, to fit poly leaving wishbones on the car. Diy able, just jack onto ramps. Undo bolt. Pull wishbone down. Cut the centre out with a hole saw. Cut the metal rings out with a jig saw.

Whack poly in. Bolt it back up. Half hour a side. (With a sharp blade and some practice) ....assuming the rearward bush is sound of course. If not, remove the bones, press new rearward bushes in.

If you find you need to do the back bushes, mate, they are only £40 for the genuine Vauxhall ones from a dealer
Do not go the cheapy route with wishbones....I found that out with a situation on the motorway that could have killed me and swmbo. Count ourselves to lucky to still be here. Poly front and Vaux rear are now fitted

Whilst I understand your sentiment T, cheap wishbones can be carefully sourced, but generally not from the UK, and either fitted as a 20k stop gap whilst existing ones are refurbished, or simply rebush the existing ones as above

Yes, Al I agree with you.
I was trying to impress that to the 'unknowedgable'  that just popping down to the local spare parts shop for the cheapest could cost them dearly.
Information from yourself about what and where to source is invaluable. In my case, I did ask for Lemforders, and only found out later that Delphi were fitted. The bones still are Delphi....but poly and Vaux bushes fitted

Yep genuine gm rearward bushes. Or Meyle heavy duty possibly. Had better results with Gm personally.

Once the nut and bolt that hold the front bush in place is removed. Will the arm drop enough to get at the old bush?

It doesn't look like it will drop to much.

Whats the cheapest place to get the poly bushes from?

Google shopping for cheapest supplier I guess, although I've heard demon tweaks mentioned on here, even though I've always found DT expensive tbh.

Yes the wishbone will drop enough to get a jig saw in there. Wedge it down with suitable blocks of wood or similar, if you cut towards the wishbone that allows keeping the jig saw flat on its side.

There are those that doubt it's possible to fit with wishbones on the car, but provided the rearward bush bolt stays in, the wheel can't escape from the wheel house. I do it suspension loaded with road wheels jacked up and ramps placed under .

Obviously take all sensible precautions, make sure the hand brake is on, the jack remains under that jack point, chock the wheals, where a condom. Usual stuff
