Does it seem reluctant to go over 2500 revs

You want to get a code reader on it before doing anything.  :y

Cam sensor is about the only sensor on the 2.2 to fail, so get codes read and see what's what.

If it has failed, replace with geniune only  :y

If the cam sensor fails do you get a warning light up?

I had a similar thing on my 2.2 when the crank sensor went, the only way to accelerate was to change gears manually
