Hi my 2.5 V6 omega CD estate devloped a major water leak from from what looks the rear of the engine , the engine was lifted slightly up and forward and the inlet removed . It looked like the issue was the coolant crossover pipe so this was removed and the rubber seal looked to be very brittle and past its best so we thought we found the issue but the seal was replaced the engine put all back together full service and new cam belt kit fitted as there was ease of access while the engine was in bit but when all fitted back and water added to the header tank the water is still comes out as quick as it goes in .

Any ideas or advice

A leak that bad should be so obvious you could diagnose it in the dark.


Where is it leaking from; there are plenty of places at the back of the engine that could be the problem, and you'd only want to pull the engine if absolutely necessary

You would think it would be holding a big banner but it's proving hard to see where are common places the coolant cross over pipe was where we thought it was replaced the o ring but still there there does look to of been water up by the inlet ?

What does that look like and where is it

It looks like a black plastic Starship Enterprise and lives at the back of the block, slightly towards the UK driver side

Major water leak at rear of engine could also be the bendy pipe from coolant bridge to heater bypass valve

Bought one 8 days ago TC price was £13 plus VAT.

Problem located there's a hole in a plate under all the inlet I'll try get a picture up soon

I believe it to be the oil cooler cover

Hole?,  the Oil Cooler plate is made of Alloy from memory, so unlikely to corrode within its lifetime, check its not just leaking due to poor servicing / maintenance or someone has used the wrong sealant (should be VX grey) from a previous oil cooler change.

Obviously worth checking or changing your oil cooler whilst in bits, they tend to rust up along the upper weld seams just below the top plate of the actual oil cooler radiator, depending on condition, milage etc.
