MOT Emission Fail
« on: 07 May 2015, 13:42:38 »

hi.
how do i get my emission to pass the mot test?
it failed and co2 and lampda.
i been told by the tester new oilfilter and airfilter.
is that right?
i dont want to spend in a bloody lampda sensor on the car. i dont really care whats coming out the rear but the mot will.

any suggrestions for cheap fix to pass?
spendet allready enough in it. and if this carry on it will go to a daeler in exchange for a ford ( as new vauxhalls are not build for bhp space and towing )/

dont realy want a ford i would like to keep the omega but in this ate i refuse paying every month a lot out for keeping a car on the road for so called safety.

2001 omega 2.5 v6 petrol

Thanks

It might help if you posted the results/readings.

When did it last have...
Oil + Filter
Spark plugs
Coolant Temp Sensor
Thermostat

Are there any leaks in your full exhaust system?

First question is....does the engine get up to temperature?

What the garage are suggesting is cobblers to be honest, it sounds like its not operating in closed loop control for some reason.

New air filter, new plugs, tankfull of 99' give it a good trashing, then bottle of cataclean.
Also make sure when its tested it is nice n hot, from cold an omega v6 will fail emissions everyday.

Until its in closed loop operation with the Lambda ok......it wont pass anything.  :y

If the Lambda was ok and the emissions out then yes maybe it would help.

engine works on normal temperature no problems to hot or to xold.
smooth running.
honest sometimes the last coupel weeks it was reving a bit like breathing for air, only sometimes and only if i drive it slow up to the shop and back.

yes i been told this by a local mechanics. bought this cata clean now( bloody 20£ ) need to get the tank to 1/4 fill it in and drive it hot. thats what he said.
aaparently from the reading there is a small missfire thats what he said too.
if this dont help car gets to hell because not buying new exhaust and feed someone with my money just for so called clean air.
im the last person on earth which is interested in saving it. sorry but thats how it is.
a car allways gives emission out so im not a believer in cat, is jut another way to make money.

That worked for me in past with tired CAT, but if its not going closed loop its never going to pass an emissions test. Can you get a code reader with Live Data on it to check?

I agree with you about emissions. Britain is a draughty place, air quality not a problem.
Is your car V6 or inline four? In my experience V6s romp through emission tests, In-line 4s fail for a pastime.
