Phone patching help?
« on: 09 September 2015, 15:04:06 »

Tech help please, I've done a bit of patching before but not sure what's needed here. We have the usual spiders web of a comms cabinet and need a dedicated phone line to one of our network points, BT have installed the line into the room i.e a socket in the wall : what's the adapter called to attach a network cable to this ? can I then just put the network cable into the matching numbered network port that the phone is plugged into?

If I'm reading you right, BT have installed an dedicated phone line (presumably not through any Switch) and its ended up being patched through your Structured Cableling? So do you mean what required at the other end for the phone, ie balum sometimes called Master / Secondary or Analogue / Digital adaptors.

Or have I read it all wrong?

I just read it as a socket in the wall, so like a normal phone line. Not a floor network socket, that is a phoneline  :-\

Assuming the telephone socket installed by Openreach is a standard master, you only need a BT male to RJ45 female adaptor and an RJ45 male to BT adaptor.

You can pay a bit more for items with Baluns inside but, I suspect the cable length is minimal and it wont cause any issues for voice.

What Marks DTM says.  Most devices do not need the Master capacitor any more either
