Driving along, the cone filter will suck in air at ambient temperature.

Problem is town driving where temp can increase 5/10 above ambient.Even worse when stuck in traffic, where the temperature drawn in by the engine can hit 40/50 degrees (especially in hot weather)  and when the fans kick in, it forces hot air up into the filter at high temp.

yeah gonna get real bad heat soak from engine bay - but have you ever felt how hot the standard air box gets in there?

only an idea coz i thought it looked trick :D :D :D

I've replaced the whole airfilter box with a BMC carbon dynamic intake filter.

Am trying ways of "insultating" the intake piping from aborbing heat.

I could do a test of seeing what temp the actual air intake is at the throttle...comparing standard intake against modified.

Saying that, the angle of the filter in the omega is such a way that the heat shield probably wouldn't help!!

Makes no difference where the intake is, these destroy the MAF sensor because they are oiled.  Not worth using one for the sake of some extra noise.  Those who believe they get more power from an induction kit are on a cloud.

What performance filter isn't oiled then? I have spoken to Pipercross and they said it would be ok with the MAF sensor, it only kills them if the filter is over oiled/cleaned incorrectly!

There has to be a reasonable way without the risk if people choose the noise over performance!

Yep. Standard filter is huge and draws in cold air effectively. Not worth messing about.

I rebuilt the engine on my previous car (non-omega) and after a while started to notice it was quite sprightly until it reached normal operating temperature and then there was a noticeable drop off in power. Turned out some of the intake ducting had come away and it was breathing air from the engine bay. As soon as the thermostat opens this air is warm,  whether in traffic or moving, due to heat from the radiator. Cool air makes a very worthwhile difference to power output.

Would be interesting to compare the live data between a standard filter and a cone one day, to see how much heat they do pick up. Could even calculate the drop in power.

Watched quite a few of these videos of the supercharged omega on youtube.  Sounds cool but there are no videos of the car actually moving at any point.  I want to see it moving before I'm convinced it's a good idea or not.

Why not remove the bottom half of the airbox and fix the cold air intake to the K&N  ;)

yeah was thinking along those lines - what i really want is to re-route the cold air feed to a lower forward facing position to get a bit of 'Ram' effect.

not alot of room behind headlight though :-?
Take the airbox out, take the airtube out of the airbox & put the airtube back in place....
