Thought these where a straight 6 twin turbo diesel  :-\

Straight 6 indeed.  Quicker than the petrol variant and much cheaper to run (well, on fuel anyway).  But Diesles are shit.  ;D

Hi, I have the 1.4T in my Zaffy and both myself and the mrs love it, it's smooth and economical, also it's a very quiet engine and to date I have had 0 issues with it, in fact my wife wants to keep it instead of her adam and believe me that is saying something!!

Yes its a very good engine, of course diesels are of zero use to anyone who is doing short miles. :y

Also be aware three was a 120bhp version of the 1.4T some time ago which is considerably more lazy.

Why not have a shot in the Diseasle?  Just to make a comparison..... if not, hairy-muff - Your money, your choice.... but don't say one half of an apple tastes beter than the other if you haven't had a bite.

Having owned the 335d and sold it due to getting fed up of the way it drove, I dont think even the bi-turbo Astra diesel would make any difference to my general dislike of diesel and the way it drives.

Initially the 335d was great fun. It has this steam roller effect where you just keep accelerating. Great on the test drive and on a motorway, but trying to have fun driving it on a twisty B road was pretty disappointing. Eventually sold it as I got fed up.

By the way, the diseasal is about 3k more for a similar spec. And with 8-10k pa, it does not make sense. Plus add in costs of blocked dpf's and other issues, no thank you.

The 120ps model of the 1.4T was never available in the UK market AFAIK.

As for owning a 335d and getting fed up on the twisties????  Have you ever driven (and I mean for a decent amount of time) a petrol Turbo car?  ;D

I'm guessing with the Derv you got bored of changing gears every two seconds.  I know what you mean.... and you'll get used to it again.... Petrol Blowers need more revs, Derv's take it on the chin.

Honestly, if you are buying a town car which will never see an angry right foot, then the 1.4T should be alright.  Your money, your choice.
