poor running when cold
« on: 17 June 2015, 19:10:52 »

hi all i have been having problems for a little while with poor running on my 2.2 petrol. about a week ago i put my code reader on it and it came up with little or no signal from the MAF sensor so i have changed that cleared the code and fired it back up great no engine managment light but was running like a bag of spaners revs jumping all over the shop anywhere between 400 and 1300 rpm and if i put my foot on the gas it stalles however after leaving it running for a couple of min the revs even out and she tickes over ok and reves up ok but when out for a drive seems very underpowered and after a while put the engine managment light back on so once back home i pluged the diagnostic back in and i now get fuel bank one fault anyone got any ideas before it costs me a fortune at the garadge regards mark

Is coolant level ok?
That's how my old 2.0 went south. Try to open coolant bottle cap when you park it after drive and if it starts fine next time when cold it could be water in cylinder 4 just like on mine. It was running like a bag ob spanners too for a minute maybe than ticked just fine after water cleared out.

Check both manifolds are tightened down, also check exhaust manifold is not cracked,if your losing coolant, start thinking about getting head gasket changed.

water level is fine i parked up last night and removed the cap was still a pain to start and get to tick over properly this morning .there are no signs of a leak at ether manifold so i tried disconecting the MAF and hay presto she starts and runs fine again so i think maybe i have perchased a duff MAF or its for the wrong engine

I swapped over my engines MAF with my sons and it ran just as you described. His MAF was bad.

Mark what make was the sensor you fitted?

This is the same as my original. A lot cheaper than the VX one.
