I also understand that LPG-equipped cars can't go through the Channel tunnel... What's the reason for this ?

Insurance for the tunnel, an LPG tank can go in a plastic burger van  ;D

Frankly, I'd rather try to ram my Omega up my own tunnel than the channel tunnel after my last journey with them, so that's not a problem for me. ;D

I'm not a fan either, it's like taking your car on the tube. Always take the boat, bit of sea air and a walk about. Fresh for the French leg  :)

I know which I would rather use from the point of view of delays as well. I've done about 500 ferry crossings and been delayed three times, twice due to the bad weather, F11 gales, and once due to striking French dock workers who invaded the boat and formed a picket complete with banners, but after about an hour they agreed to leave.

I've used the Chunnel twice (4 crossings) and Eurostar three times (6 crossings) with a 50% delay rate. Twice the delays were significant, 6 hours+. >:( >:( >:( >:(

I used Eurostar for a long weekend break once, and never again. They seem to have a problem with keeping the power lines attached to the ceiling.  ::) Tunnel was breaked on the way out for this reason, so got a one way flight at short notice.

Came to return and they wouldn't accept the return half of my ticket because I hadn't validated the outward part. I explained that their customer service on the way out was so good that the Police had had to step in to close the terminal area, so more chance of doing the foreskin earwarmer trick than getting them to do anything with the ticket.

They then explained that their system in the UK was different to the system in Brussels so they couldn't honour my booking anyway. Useless bunch of Onanists.

They did send me a complementary ticket for my trouble. By return of post I enclosed it with instructions as to the whereabouts of the orifice in which it would be best inserted, to save them wasting time looking for an opening in their elbow. >:(

Funny, I've never had an issue with the Chunnel, but have been stuck for hours on a couple of occasions waiting for the bloody ferry to turn up...

The thing is, to create a fustercluck of Eurostar proportions, all the ferries would have to sink on the same day, or the channel would have to dry up.

As the tunnel itself isn't reliable, any failures cause massive disruption the like of which can only be matched by the cheese eating surrender monkeys going on strike.  ::)
