Ok last year I had a test done on the aircon and it showed a leak on the compressor if I remember rightly, so it seemed a lot of cash to fix but as the last few days have shocked us into realisation that travelling anywhere with 2 kids under 3 is virtually impossible as they have started crying within minutes of being in a stuffy car.
I either shell out on possibly parts and repairs worth more than the car and run the risk of possibly not having anymore heat waves or someone suggested tinting windows, my neighbour has offered to do it for £70 on a weekend via his tinting company, but does it really make much difference? also as the front window and front side windows cannot be done then the car is likely to still get a lot of sun glare.

Is it easy to replace the compressor? if I can get a replacement then I guess the only cost is refil and testing again?

As I understand there are only two rubber seals on the back of the compressor. If your compressor is OK then you only need to replace the two rubber seals and not the whole compressor.

Please wait for someone else to confirm this and give you proper advice about the gas in the system and how to safely do the repair.

You'll still have stale air inside the car, particularly after its been parked up - I'd recommend fixing the aircon.

After today with the temp outside at 35C on the M23 I would say fix the aircon all day as it is a much better solution than tinting the windows and just being hot in the dark!!

Not concerned about the gas as its all gone! The seals are fine it has a leak near to joins but not the joins

The pretty much thought that I have vague memories of nice cold not cool cold air when I first had the car!

Have rear tints on my 3.2, nothing on the 2.2.

Tints help, but nothing beats aircon

Have dark tints on one of my cars.....but not much difference is made to the inside temp on the car... if any,so the air con fix gets my vote

I have limo black on the estate added by last owner and it makes no difference at all, just makes it look like a van thinking of taking it off but the glue is a sod to get off. Car was like an oven yesterday as air-con needs a top up

ok sounds a plan I just need someone on here to have a decent replacement part I will fit it and then take it to an aircon service place to test and fill

I have the best of both worlds... Air con and the custom fitted shades

I have drug dealer windows and aircon, the tinted windows help keep the inside a bit cooler,so the aircon doesn't work as hard, in an ideal world you want the heat reflective windscreen aswel.
