Just be aware that once it starts to spin, a few things happen...

1. It no longer seals.
2. The cap needs removing to either tighten or remove the retaining bolt.
3. For it to spin in the first place, either the retainig lug or the part of the block the lug locates in have failed.
4. Levering against the block has the potential to end in a visit from the scrap man.

Just saying, like.

The one on the 2.5 is spinning but just wanted the cap off that one to put on the 2.6 for now .. ill convert both eventually , point taken about levering onto the block .
If i cant get the whole bit off the 2.5 ill just take the bolt out the one on the 2.6 and wait for the new screw insert to arrive then fix the broken lug one on the 2.5 later .

I wouldn't drive either of them until sorted.

I think i know what your saying , maybe best just to unbolt the existing housing and await the new insert . Then seeing as ive moved the the housing on the 2.5 it wont seal so covert that too  ::) But i still need to get it off , no rush for the spinning one though .

What a palaver  ::)

As I found that mine would not move I have always since then got the garage to change the oil and filter.I have wondered before whether they do change the filter or just put new oil in, will have to ask to see the old filter next time,

As it's clearly essential to avoid spinning the housing, does that mean cutting/grinding/hacking the cap off is the only alternative if it won't move? To be follwed by the conversion job obviously.

Yet to try the filter wrench but if that dont work then i will
punch a hole in the cap and get to the bolt that way .

Meanwhile i have removed the housing on the shattered
cap , cleaned up the mating surface ready for the
new screw insert and spin on filter .
