Can one of the technical experts tell me what the sport button actually does to achieve the result. I would like to know how it does so both on my TD and 3.2.

Let's it rev to the red line, rather than changing down as quickly as possible. Both TD and 3.2 are electronic throttles, so assume ECU just tells geaxbox

On the TD I always get the feeling that it revs livelier, so assumed that there must be a fuel element involved, as it allows me to pull away quicker from stops, or am I making that up?

By allowing the gears to hold longer, the relatively higher revs keep the turbo on the boil for longer, hence being more lively

The 3.2 has a similar effect thanks to the multirams working their magic at 3000 and 4000 RPM.

It essentially stops the gearbox from changing up before either the red line or you lift off... Whichever happens first

Differant mode for the gear box. Changes the shift points. Nothing more.

It is, but only by virtue of the revs being higher when it shifts, thereby using more of the available torque for longer...

Now then.

I believe, Sport does bugger all for performance with the exception that it will not change up quite so quickly on partial throttle.

Sport Mode engaged = Kick-Down in 'Normal Mode'.  Afterall, on Kick-Down, the transmission will not shift until the engine is at it's pre-determined rev limit.

I guess 'Sport Mode' is advantageous on the twisty's as it will stay in a lower gear (and won't engage top (until about 131MPH (not that I would know that))).

Pure WOT acceleration, not a jot of difference!

When I engage Sport mode my car gets blacker.

I strongly suspect it just disables the adaptive learning on the autobox. and goes to a standard all be it aggressive shift map.

No variation on engine.
