2.5 TD A/C question.
« on: 11 August 2015, 19:56:08 »

Hi all.

The A/C compressor on my 2.5 TD omega has failed, the bit that sits inside the pully wheel has come adrift.

Took the car down to an A/c specialist today and have been told that there is a possibility that oil and metal filing could have contaminated the whole system and if so I would be looking at a bill of about £700 + cost of new compressor.

Now while A/C is nice, I don't use it very often and could live without it as I'm not willing to spend that sort of money on the car ( more than the car is worth) so I am thinking of just removing the A/C belt as a quick fix, would this be OK or does the A/C belt drive any other components?

thank for any advive
chris.

Not sure on the TD Engine :(

V6's A/C Compressor Driven by Fan Belt.  Outside of compressor pully runs on the bent all the time with a clutch type mech which engages when A/C on and middle then spins.  Cant therefore remove that belt  :D, but appreciate it maybe different for the TD.

Can't you try getting a new 2nd hand compressor, fit and then take for pressure test, vac down and re-gas & refill with correct level of refrigerant ?

Quick google TD DENSO AIR CON COMPRESSOR under £100.

Somebody on here may have one  :y

Good Luck.

Yes, just remove the short AC belt, leaving the long aux belt in situ still :y

Well had a look today, and it turns out that the bolt that holds the center clutch to the pulley had fallen out. :-*.
Had to remove ac pump, which was not as bad as I thought  it would be, and have now fitted a new bolt.

Is there any way of checking if all is working ok , before I pay out £40 to have  a re gas done. Don't really what to re gas only to find out its not working and   have to remove compressor again .

I don't think so, unless there is enough gas in it to give you an indication. :-\

Is your car a PFL? If so, I have a pump here, bought in error for my FL model. I may well be going along to the High Wycombe meet next month if interested as it is very heavy as you probably well know.
I had the whole front come off my AC compessor at 60mph. Made an awful mess

Thanks for the offer Keith, but I'm going to get it re-gased and see how I get on.
