Young lad at work recently brought a astra convertible a few weeks ago and he said last week he needed some new tyres. He'd been looking on ebay for cheap tyres and decided against my advice to go with auto grips cause they were the cheapest. He had them fitted and I said that they were very dangerous in the wet and in the dry to but he just thought I was talking crap!!

This morning he calls up work to say sorry going to be late had an accident on the way in, yes it was raining this morning and yes he did end up in the back of someone after he says like sliding on ice

I hope he was ok? beyond that he learned a useful lesson...................

aren't these c rated in the wet by the EU? do we not trust the EU ratings (my guess is a loud no here)? 

it can't be that difficult to properly test a tyre, stopping in a straight line in the wet.  agreed that doesn't cover everything -  i am a little disturbed to discover that the EU test doesn't cover behaviour while aquaplaning but i can see that might be complicated.
