More timing belt questions (Ford Duratec 1.6 16v)
« on: 19 July 2015, 15:46:06 »

So. Going to be doing ma's ford fusion (2006 duratec 1.6 16v) timing belt on Thursday / Friday at the garage. Im checking on Monday that they've got the lock kit but if not im going to have to order one.

is this the bad boy I need....

https://www.toolstoday.co.uk/sealey-petrol-engine-setting-locking-kit-1-25-1-4-1-6-1-8-2-0-2?gclid=CjwKEAjwla2tBRDY7YK9uKXe8R8SJAAhG6LGPbyYub_0nMMZbwPm7hBG5tGroT0uro58HnTZRJUeDRoCNnDw_wcB

also wtf is that pin with the round end for??

finally should I be buy a fly wheel lock tool to bust the crank bolt loose? im hopingv the indy gun will be enough but if not.....

finally finally....do you get plastic tools with the new aux belt as its one of those stretch belts?

Anyone have an idea?

I phoned ford today and they don't supply the tool for the stretch belt in their kit either (its meant to be cheap plastic tool that comes with genuine belts...looks like ill be prying it on then  ::)

I suspect the "grenade pin" is a handy tool to peg the aux belt tensioner back. You apply pressure with a spanner until two holes line up then pop the pin in. I'm not 100% but you need a 4mm pin on the Mondeo to do this.

On the flywheel locking - best to use a kit - but in gear with a foot on the brake and an impact wrench on the crank bolt will most probably do it.

hi guys,

Jason, thanks for your input. did the job today and it went like this...

find tdc with the crank pin and the cam bar
mark flywheel (ring gear in this case) so you have another mark for the crank to make reference to
remove pin and cam bar
hold flywheel with big screw driver whilst breaking crank bolt loose with breaker bar
remove pulley
small molegrips on crank shaft to bring it back round to tdc. lock with pin
use (21mm) spanner to bring cams in to time. lock with bar.
remove belt/replace (eeeeeasy with floating crank sprocket)
pulley back on and done up enough so crank and sprocket are now one again
turn over to check
screw driver in ring gear to tighten crank bolt

reassemble.
