Mrs 944's company (Admiral) tried the same when she had an accident (her fault). They wanted over double (£550 -->£1200). We moved to another insurer and got it down to just over £700.

Some old woman drove her mpv into the side of me a few years back and wrote my car off  :(She admitted liability ect then my insurance got hiked up the same as your wifes friends  Rang another insurance company and they told me they try and recoup their losses any way they can  Told my insurance company to DO one and i went elsewhere and got £150 discount .

After my 2.2 was written off ( numpty left his handbrake off), so no fault on my side. Aviva decided to load my next premium by 150%  Changed to Saga and got it for less than what Aviva charged me originally.
