MV6 noisy dash (A/C)
« on: 22 September 2015, 13:49:09 »

I have a MV6 with A/C that has never worked (heater is ok) the car has been fine but about a year ago when you first started it you get a ticking noise coming from the center of the dash, this goes away when you drive it after about 2-3 Mins. There is no noise in the engine bay as I've started the car with the bonnet open and it is from the dash area. The car has not been used much in the last 2 months, and it seams worse now on start up and lasts longer.
Searching on forums some opels have similar issues caused by the A/C flaps and you can apparently reset them.
Has anyone else had this problem or knows what it is?

I think that is most probably the A/C flaps behind the dash opening/closing. Quite normal. Sure someone who knows a lot more than me will be along soon to put you straight. Have you had A/C serviced or regassed at all, you might find it a great help. :y

Tried to have it re-gassed when I first got the car wouldn't seal to create a vacum, either a seal or the cradiator leaking.

A cheap regas doesn,t always do the trick. A good service/regas is about £50 to £60 due to the  fact that the oil will be changed as well. This helps  your dried out seals, (if it,s not too late).

Don't forget your A/C condenser may be toast,it's the first logical step in getting your A/C up and running, then simpler stuff like the Schrader valves and 'O' rings, also compressor may need checking out if all else fails. Been there and done it three times and in each case A/C condenser was the cause of the A/C system not working.....simples :y

Can you recreate this ticking by selecting between 'vents/widscreen/footwell'? Because, as ronnyd said, the flaps that send the air down the different ducts are electric, they move quite slowly and in my car are noticable when i turn the fans on. There are servos that pull a cable operated flap which pullls tight when the flap has reached its movement limit - creating mild noise as the cable tightens.
or maybe it's the air sampler fan. If some crap gets in where the fan blades are, it could Tick, but might be a fast ticking.

hope this help.

When you say the A/C condensor do you mean the a/c condensor radiator in front of the water radiator? I originally had a re-gas and service and the a/c radiatior has all the fins falling of of it, so I have a new one but havent got round to fitting it yet. I will and have it serviced and re-gassed.
I take it that people think it is something in the Aircon that is making the noise then?

Probably one of the flap servos moving... depending on the settings, they can adjust alot automatically :y

Also, if the pollen filter isn't correctly fitted/missing you can get leaves etc drawn into the heater fan, which will create all sorts of racket ::)

Have ordered a pollen filter, and will clean out fan.
Took the car for a 50 miles run this morning, and have now decided it is more likely the gearbox/thrust bearing making the noise rather than A/C unit.
The noise speed changes to suit the engine revs and stops at speed when you put the clutch in, it never use to be this bad but has got worse since it has been sat. It had a new clutch fitted about 2 years ago but the thrust bearing wasn't changed.
Has anyone had any similar noises from their Gearbox or clutch?

Always change the thrust bearing when you change the clutch...

When it fails, you'll be lucky not to crack the bell housing. Simply popping tye car into reverse was enough to kill mine.

All I can say is when it starts to shreik you have about a mile left.

I have spent the weekend, looking at the car and am now covinced the noise is coming frome the dash area. I thought it was the thrust bearing as it stops when you put your foot on the clutch. but if you keep the revs up you can still hear it.
With bonnet up and reving the car you cant hear it at all, only inside the car as you rev it above 2500rpm and it increases with the revs. It sounds like a speedo cable but they are electronic.
Has anyone else had a similar problem as it is driving me mad. Will do the thrust bearing just to eliminate it but it's alot of work if it dosen't fix it.
Have found and old thread (2005) where people have reported a similar problem but with no fix. Any other ideas?
