My geometry settings for appraisal
« on: 11 October 2015, 13:19:23 »

I cant shake the feeling that they're not quite right - but I'm no expert. Thoughts (mainly on final values), chaps?

FWIW the car is on Bilstein B6s with 30mm lowering springs, but with 10mm rubber pad inserted to bring the rear to 20mm drop.

Front camber is well out... Far too little, should be -1*15"...

Everything else looks fine :y

How does it drive after the mods and after WIM?

Good to know - rear camber seemed excessive to me, but I was running on empty by that point in the day.

Its fair to say, however, WIM were far less impressive, service wise, than last time - so I shall be considering going elsewhere with the ex plod... But that's another topic.

Front camber then, what effect will that have? I'm happy with the way it drives, it now handles like a car should, and the ride is firm but not uncomfortable.

Judging by the amount of times my car has gone missing, I think MrsGK is just as impressed... I love her!

Front tyre outer edge wear...

Rear camber is a side effect of lowering but is adjusted with the track, so always a compromise...
Important measurement at rear is the geometric drive or thrust angle which is importantly 0 :y

Expect rear tyre inner edge wear over time...

Took my 3.2 MV6 to ATS for a 4 wheel alignment on Friday, with a similar set up, Eibach springs and Bilstein B4's etc and they turned me away saying that the car was too low to be able to do the job.....bit strange as I had taken the 3.2 Elite  in the day before with a similar set up but with Irmy springs and B4's,now got to take it to Merit's who apparently use a different system which allows them to do lowered cars....will see next week :-\

Ta chap! Not too worried about tyre wear really, it only does 2k a year so they should be age expired before worn out... :y

Poor camber setup could eat those tyres in that distance or less  :y

Don't say that! Reckon its likely with those settings? I really don't want to have to go back and try to get them to listen to me, they were disinterested enough the first time.

Reducing the camber will increase the toe out, which will make cornering, um, interesting...Given the lowering, your figures look to be alright, but if the resident guru has a moment to have a looksee, I am sure he will be able to confirm whether your numbers are reasonable or not :y

He reckoned that he only needed to do the rear toe bars and the front track control arms, and everything else lined up OK. I'd been up since 0400, having got to bed at 0030, then had one of the worst journeys Ive ever done to get there, and I think I was a little too keen to trust him rather than push for more camber. As I say, I was really not impressed compared with my previous visit (funnily enough in the same car... But it was 7 years ago, and it was Tony himself doing it).
