iPod touch question
« on: 15 October 2015, 23:09:28 »

I've a IPod touch 1 which I use in the car.
Tried to stick a new album on it yesterday and it came up with this response  :-\

"iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch "Steve's iPod because a invalid response was received from the device"

I have tried rewinding iTunes to a earlier version.
Resetting the iPod.
Tried 3 different leads including 1 brand new one  :(

Still no joy  :(

Well pished off about this  >:(
Any ideas in OOF land or is the iPod ready for the scrap heap  :(

Seen/read about this before, usually an issue with Anti-virus.

Which one do you use? Disable it, or un-install as a temp solution. Uninstall iTunes.

Re-boot.

Fresh install of iTunes and hook up the iPod  :y

I got this, along with several other bizarre errors a while ago on my iphone. Turned out the cable was FUBAR - potentially could solve your issue if the antivirus doesn't turn out to be the cause.

Tunnie ...........  The laptop is running MS Essentials with Peerblock running in the background.
I have noticed that if Peerblock is blocking HTTP then iTunes wont download any artwork but othe then this, i've never even had any dodgy malware or viruses for years  :-\

I've have a play with essentials turned off later and get back to you on that  :y

Jimmy ............. Tried 3 cables. The last one straight out of the packet so hopefully, even I am not that unlucky  ;D

A few of other things to mention
The iPod DOES charge up when connected upto the laptop with out any problem.
It also plays and charges in the car using the 30 pin plug.
Also am I right in thinking that if I uninstall iTunes off the laptop, I still get to keep the best part of 300 albums on the computer  :-\

TIA  :)

Tunnie's response sounds the more likely, disable or uninstall the AV, sometimes it can interfere.

Failing that, try a HARD reset on the device (back ip up first using - http://download.cnet.com/CopyTrans/3000-18545_4-10426173.html)

If that doesn't work, update the firmware on the device.  Once sorted restore it using the files you recovered from the backup.

Okay, in true gonads fashion, this is getting stranger by the minute  ::)

Tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling it to no avail so out of semi desperation, I plugged the iPod into my small netbook which I use to update my phone and other bits  :-X

Right, the main laptop which refuses to work has the latest version 12.3.0.44.
The old netbook is running 12.2.1.16 and it bloody WORKS  :o :o

It would seem that crApple have stopped supporting the old iPod 1 touch in the latest version of iTunes without telling anybody  >:( >:( >:(

Is they anyway to download and install a old version of iTunes onto my main laptop ?

You'll need to remove all the Apple Aplication Support, Mobile Device Support, iCloud and iTunes itself.  Then rename the iTunes Library file (iTunes Library.itl) found in C:\Users[your username]\Music\iTunes.  Just rename the file extension to .bak (iTunes Library.bak)

Then download and install iTunes of your liking.  :y
