as i recall the A only appears if you have air con on i.e. eco mode off.  the A means it will draw in outside air until it detects pollution then it will 'A'utomatically re-circulate until the outside is clean again.  2099 probably.

I don't own one anymore, but I'm sure it's something like hold the button for a few seconds, or tap it a couple of times in quick succession to get Auto re-circ on.

Pointless anyway, as the sensor would have failed years ago (we are talking old cars here) and chances of you having a decent carbon filter (unless you buy them from Vx) is slim.

Facelift cars all have Electronic Climate Control and should therefore have a charcoal cabin filter.

As for the rest of it there's several pages dedicated to using the climate control system in the manual :-X

Are they a service item then? Can they be changed?

Pretty sure you have to use the carbon filter on FL cars, too? It's easily done to have the earlier, wrong one fitted, and therefore 'clogs' up the sensor/cases it to fail? I think that's the logic, anyway.

No idea about where to get sensors from, I'd assume the usual 'from a breakers' answer.  :-\

Keith ABS does a full service kit, which includes pollen filter. I'm on the superior PFL, of course, however, I beleive that he can supply a FL 'version' of the kit, which can include carbon pollen filter and cartridge type oil filter, if you so wish.

Incidentally, the price for the whole lot is about the same as just the spark plugs from Vx, so a ruddy bargain  :y
