Spare key and fob
« on: 23 November 2015, 21:27:47 »

I need a spare key and fob for my current omega, I have a spare key and fob from another omega.

Can this be utilised in any way or do I just buy a whole new spare from Vauxhall?

Buy a blank blade from eBay, get it cut to match yours.

Do you have car pass? You will need that to get the key coded. Some forum members here can code them, or you can try a dealer.

If you have the car pass for both cars, you should need a chip and new blade... The remote can be reprogrammed... :y

yup ....  in reality you "programme the car to the key" .. NOT the "key to the car" ... the chip in the key has an embedded code that cannot be changed .. you tell the car to accept that code as valid and all other codes as invalid (unless you have more than one key when it accepts each key code only)... is a very poor description of how it works IMHO ....

I'm sure The Boy will give a far more accurate explanation when he passes by... electronics is his field .. not mine !!!

oops sorry I should have worded that better.

I have a separate 2 button fob from the key which has no buttons. Would this type of fob need programming via tech 2?

Thanks for the reply

Depends on the new car. IIRC, all 2 button separate fobs are Megamos, so if the new Omega is a 2 button Megamos, you could be in luck
