Bit of help needed please SWMBO's Fiesta

Having to replace front offside wheel bearing on wifeys Fiesta. Got the old one out - in two halves  ::) Now whats the best way to put new on in???

Bearing into the housing first, then press the hub into the bearing or hub>>>bearing>>>housing all in one go  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I got one of those windy in presses huge vice to hold the housing & 3 foot breaker bar to do it

Any ideas appreciated.

If it's a one piece bearing, take it and the hub to your local garage and give them a drink to do it properly. Far too easy to damage it using a vice which isn't meant for that sort of job. Vice handles are the length they are to dissuade you from using it as a press.

Bearing into the housing first, the only bearing were i needed a press for was my citroen relay bearing but that was about 4" big.

With the housing supported you should be able to tap it in using the old outer race shell (Assuming you got that out ok).

Support the inner part of the bearing so you don't separate the new one when tapping in the hub flange.

Fwiw I think the odds of you winding it in properly square are minimal. I'd strip it all out and take somewhere with a press to get it all pressed in. Should cost buttons to get it done. My old man had a similar problem on his s-type some years ago. Shortened the life of the hearings no end as they were minutely out of true.

Bearing in the freezer over night and hub in the oven, they should fit in with a light tap.

SORTED!!!  :D :D :D :D :D :D

Bearing in the freezer last night, hub heated (not in the oven, she'da killed me, even though it is her car ;D ) Got one of those Sealy screw in bearing presses on to it, fit like a glove  :) :) :)

Now the only PITA left to assemble is the thermostat housing!!!  >:( >:( >:( If you think the one on the omega is bad........talk about turning the air blue!!!! You have to take off off-side headlight, alternator, bottom crankshaft cover front grill and loads of pipework just to get at one little B4$TUARD of a bolt  >:( >:( >:( The other 3 come off ok, but that little........................
All to stop the housing from leaking, a little rubber seal at 20p, about 2 hours bloody work!!!!

If you think the Fiesta thermostat is bad, don't do one on a TD4 Freelander. It doesn't come off unless you move(remove if you follow Land Rover instructions)n the engine.

Try the thermostat in a Smart Roadster .... a barsteward of a job and having seen the thermostat that came out of SWMBO's 1.6 C3, I'm glad I paid someone else to do it (£265 all in!!  :o)
