Will Aleppo in Syria start WWIII
« on: 11 February 2016, 17:35:54 »

This is becoming an increasing dangerous situation where Obumma and Kerry have given Putin a free hand in Syria and his increasing assertiveness is creating an increasingly dangerous geopolitical situation especially between Turkey and Russia.

Aleppo is only 50 miles from the Turkish border and Turkey is of course a member of NATO. Turkey has its own geopolitical interests in Syria which are very different to Russia's.

Lets hope that wise heads prevail.

could happen, if say one side is stupid enough to shoot down a military jet after, say, a 17 second alleged incursion into their airspace  8)http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/26/russia-turkey-jet-mark-galeotti

Syria is getting very messy and dangerous. Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Assad, Kurds, ISIS, Russia and the US all have vested and geopolitical interests. US and Russia have always sensibly armed third-parties in the past to fight proxy wars, the fact that both are in the same war zone makes this particularly dangerous, but expect both sides to increase the arming of their proxies if things escalate.

It wasn't that long ago that civilised countries escorted stray fighter planes out of their airspace.

My concern is that there are a lot of players that are unpredictable in this conflict.

It will be interesting to see what NATO concludes from its meeting today. I cannot see an appetite for boots on the ground. We all know how that turns out. It is good that NATo has at long last sent patrol boats to tackle the people smuggling from Turkey to Greece. Only about a year too late.

Maybe the solution will be a partitioned Syria. Part run by Assad, part by some opposition group and part by Satanic State.

The Turks warned the Russians not to take the piss
The Russians carried on taking the piss so the Turks set up a nice little ambush to prove a point believing that they could scream article 5 and NATO would come running if it all kicked off  :(

I'm under the impression that NATO had a quite word and told them they was on there own if it did  ;)

I personally think NATO is finished as a organisation  :-\

About time!  The 'Muslim nations' not getting involved has really confused me.

If this does continue, it'll be the World against ISIS.  And so may it continue.
