There is also often a filter in the bottom of the res on the outlet which connect to the pump, seen this clogged to.

Will check that on Monday thank you, Ive also been told by Paddocks in Derby to undo the bleed nipple on the top of the steering box with engine running and fluid should gush out if not it confirms the pump

Good point, I will check the filter first ( is that simple?), what about disconnecting the outlet pipe on the pump and start the engine, if it chucks out fluid it's working ?

Well that's not a given, as if the fluid is not getting to the pump (e.g. the filter or delaminated pipe etc)

Well it's been to a garage and £310 later its had a new steering pump and Aux belt as suspected so at least it wasn't the steering box. pump £120+vat and belt £22+vat then fluid and labour (2 hours) they seem to of made quite a bit on the parts, the belt from morleys without a trade price was £15 and pump around £100
