Whether or not it is fair or unfair, or appears to be a good deal or not, is probably irrelevant. There are many possible reasons why he might not want to take you up on your offer. One might be that he just simply does not want to drive a big, old, inefficient, unreliable (in many people's views), slow (2.2 auto), gas guzzling Vauxhall that's past it's best and which needs enthusiasts to bother to keep them going.

All very true, and if he hadn't expressed an interest in omegas generally, and mine in particular I'd agree with you. He's even asked if I'd help him look for a decent one.

I have an interest in all sorts of cars, but I don't want one/them. Just because he's expressed an interest in Omegas or asked you to help him find a good one has zero bearing on whether or not he wants yours. It seems like it's a good deal for you, allowing you to keep your options open, and perhaps that has blinded you to the fact that it might not be so good for him.
TBH, both parties have benefits and risks associated with the deal. Not something any of us can help with really  ;)

Well then why post?

Perhaps broadening someone's views beyond the egocentric is helpful.  :y

Perhaps so. But do you openly tell people you want/are seeking one when you don't/aren't?

Hardly egocentric, he's expressed an interest in a specific car (all of which are second hand and as old or older than mine and probably 95% having higher mileage than my 68k), I've offered him the free use of such a vehicle which has a clean MOT, all known issues addressed and all maintenance up to date. I would get back a car with the same known history, albeit needing various things doing (cam belt for example). His reluctance confused me as I thought it a good deal for both parties. Hence my seeking alternative opinions.

He doesn't want an old shed and be tied to you in the process. Get over it.

Hardly.....I was a little more direct as initially you didn't seem to understand your friend doesn't want a shed. If anything, you're the one who is in a huff: "Oh no why doesn't my mate want to run my clapped out old banger then give it back to me after three years?!?!" The answer to that is obvious to everybody else.

Funnily enough he did ask me that when we discussed it. My view was that it was unlikely that any insurance money would be coming in that event (after excesses etc) So just let it go. I figured any money coming to him would have been more than offset by the premium increase on whatever he ran next. I'd be out whatever the 'bay would have given me for the car but c'est la vie.

Interestingly, we met up for a beer this arvo and talked some more about it. Transpires he wanted something more long term than just 3yrs. He's asked me for 1st refusal when I get rid of it and some help to lpg it if he buys it.

No idea what a fair price for it is, cross that bridge if we get to it.  :-\
