installing child seat on a 2002 Omega
« on: 02 May 2016, 21:59:01 »

I now have a grandson as well as an Omega. Am I correct in assuming that there is no way of installing one of the modern ISOFix Childs car seats because they require fixings which have to be installed by the manufacturer.

If I am correct is their a satisfactory alternative?

Many thanks.

I just use an  'ordinary' car seat and fix it in as per instructions, perfectly satisfactory arrangement as far as I am aware.

 :) :)

As far as I know. The ISOfix in my Merc & SWMBO's Citroen are welded in loops in the base of the seat.

Not as good as when a seat is in via ISOfix though  ;)

Depends... I bet the seat in the middle of my Omega is as secure or more so than an isofix one ;)

Usually attached to the floor pan where the backrest and base meet... sometimes welded in, but often a bracket assembly bolted in to strengthened mount not dissimilar to seatbelt buckle fixings :y

Some manufacturers make an isofix mounting kit that can be bolted into the car at a later date.

Have a look at the kit for a Ford Focus Mk2 as an example.  Vauxhall don't make one though (as far as I know). :(

Just get a "normal" seat belt secured seat, we have Maxi Cosi Tobi in the 3.2, uses seat belt. Perfectly fine  :y

When little MissT was younger we used Maxi Cosi Easybase, along with Pebble seat. Again all fine  :y

My son Ben has a son - my grandson - and a complicated rear facing child seat in the back of his Omega for him. It looks very complicated, quite secure. We once had a Peugeot 505 Family estate, and all 4 children sat in either child seats or jump seats. Now they all drive Omegas.

I'm going back a few years now (my kids are nearly 27 & 28) but the problem I found when they were both in car seats was that the 2 outer seats of a saloon tended to make both kids seats lean in towards each other. Isofix would have been better had they been around.

Thanks to every one for the quick and helpful responses. I think that the practical answer is that there are ways of fixing a secure child's seat with out the Isofix  mountings. The Q will be if I can convince my medic son and his wife that such is in fact the case!
