Just fitted one to the bathroom toilet as it was taking about ten minutes to fill. Does away with the ball valve altogether and uses a small float that rides up the valve itself. Fills in about one minute now. Very impressed and only a tenner from screwfix

An evolution of the Torbeck valves, uses the mains water pressure to open and then close a reasonable size valve rather than relying on a floating ball plus leverage to press a small valve against the mains pressure.

Just be aware that the small port in them that does the switching can get clogged with gunk sometimes which results in a quick strip down and clean (of the valve so worry not!)

They are brillialt! I replaced the toilet cistern, loft CWS and CH Portsmouth valves with them - FluidMaster, I thinl - and they are all quick and quiet. The loft ones used to sound like Concorde coming in to land!
Also, I changed the toilst cistern flush device for a same-make push button type; it has the overflow incorporated within itself, so no outside pipe required. That's quieter, too, for those middle-of-the-night visits as you get older.......

On the point of a quicker fill:

If your water pressure/flow rate is a bit carp, it can be worth only partially opening the valves to slow the fill rate. That way if you're having a shower and someone flushes, your shower won't reduce to a dribble.

Particularly relevant if (like us) you only have a 15mm feed into the house

I know what you mean Ron, after the plumber fitted a new valve in the downstairs loo i thought the planes from Mildenhall were landing on the roof.
