as I understand it I should be able put a key with a new circuit board into the ignition & by turning it to number 2 position then pressing buttons on the fob it would programme itself to the c/l side of things. it isn't. though ive put the  old original chip into this new key & its starting the car ok. when I got this c/b it came without the light & its been suggested that this could be the trouble, I cant see it myself  :-\

Nope, needs coding to the car, the method you describe will only re-sync a remote which is already coded.

As MDTM says, it needs to be coded to the car with diagnostics software.

The procedure in the manual is to resync a key after the fob battery has been removed.

When my fob returned from Martin Imber i just put the two halves together, didn,t have to re-sync or anything. ???

Wouldn't the transponder be glued to the part of the key that you retained? If so, no coding or syncing tequired.

yes I sent my original fob to be repaired but kept the blade & chip & put that into a spare that needs a tech 2 to sync it to my car,  which begs another question. Would I just be able to send a key to a tech 2 with relative details from the car pass to be synced or Would the car have to be present too.?

The light isn't needed. It's just so you have visual confirmation that the buttons have been pressed

My 04 astra g never had a light. So I soldered in an smd

Is the pcb the same as the original eg mine is a bosch rk 433.92 mhz

You're confusing syncing and programming.

Syncing is bringing the rolling code of an already programmed remote back in line with what the car expects. This is the procedure in the handbook.

Programming is making the car accept the codes from a previously unrelated remote. That could be new or used, the procedure is the same. And it is the car that is programmed, NOT the remote. So it can only be done with the car on site.
