Hello all

i've read the various guides to replacement of this gasket and will roll this into another job i have to do, but i'm not entirely clear as to where the generally agreed areas are on the head to apply the gasket.

I thought a thin smear all round the mating surfaces (like other cars i've worked on) but one of the guides in the technical library says apply to shoulders of the half moons only and Haynes refers to areas near the camshaft caps and half-moon cut outs.

Any definitive thoughts?

Also Haynes refers to gasket sealant 15 03 295 whereas the guide on this forum refers to sealant 90485251. Are these equivalent?

Sorry about the pernickety questions but I prefer "do it right, do it once"!!

Thanks in advance

I would just get the sealant 90485251 from your dealer it's only about £5

The number in Haynes might be an Opel part number or could refer to a product sold by one of their sponsors :-\

As to where to put the sealant, they both refer to the same places... in the corners where the front bearing cap meets the head and around the half moons, ie where the back of the head is notched at the end of the cams...

Technically only the front end needs it, the halfmoons being belts and braces.  :y

All the way round defeats the purpose of the rubber seal... all the sealant does is give a little extra help in the awkward corners :y

Hi Harris

much clearer thank you.

A diagram in Haynes would have been great but they can't picture everything!

Cheers
