Petrol mower
« on: 19 June 2016, 18:40:51 »

Was dragged out of my shed this afternoon, for the first cut of the year for probably 2ft high grass  ::) ;D

Started after a couple of pulls, like it usually does  :y and cut the grass...

But I did wonder about having a go at sharpening the blade on it....having acquired a bench grinder.

Now I seem to remember theres something about turning a 4 stroke mower over.....something about the oil in the sump ....

Is it you can lift it from the handle upwards, but not side to to side  :-\

My mower dumps its oil, no matter which way you turn it.  So I angle at about 45 degrees (so it doesn't leak), to remove blade.

My electric mower is sh1te, but the grass needs to be fairly dry & not too long for my ancient Atco petrol mower so it's often not used

I,ve got a new Flymo Easi Glide. What a pile of sh*t, it rattles like a can, the build quality is rubbish and feels like it,s going to float away,( i have to put a brick in the grassbox). ::) God i miss my old Compact 330, wish i,d have replaced the motor on that instead, though that was more expensive the this new one.  :o

I use a Bosch Rotac 32.  Plug it in and I'm off! It picks up the cuttings efficiently, leaves stripes behind and there's no mucking about with petrol or oil!  :y

The only gardening jobs I do are the ones involving petrol and oil.  ::)

Reminds me. Must make some progress on the petrol fired weed killer. :D

I concur. The only electricity new a mower should be HT.

I'd never have another leccy mower, universally useless - the grass needs to be dry and short, else it won't cut.
