Time to go....
« on: 30 June 2016, 22:46:06 »

Feel gutted after owning the omega for years I have to sell it to buy an ugly people carrier as family rapidly grows, so what would people suggest selling it at? I guess its not worth much more than £400, and so it gets to the point where are the parts worth far more than the whole car.
It's great but needs a new 2/3 solenoid as sometimes crashes and goes to limp home mode, air con does not work as has leaks, rust on back arches and bottom of back doors in corners, I'm pretty sure it needs a new thermostat, it needs topping up with oil every other week, not found the leak but some oil stains are on the  driveway.
The above issues i've put up with for at least 2 years with no problems

any pearls of wisdom would be helpful before I list it here for sale or scrap it...

If it were that good, then it will whistle through another one...

And don't disguise obscure the number plate in the pictures... in this day and age, MoT history can be checked on line... any car without a number plate shown will get filtered off peoples lists unless it's summat special.

Regretably it's sounds like a scrapper, as I'm the Saint of lost causes..namely the Omega! and there comes a time when it's over, but the trick is being able to recognise that point and I suppose that you could be straight to the point as you have been here, and let the buyer make a decision as to the car's future.Personally I wouldn't want to break a car and have it hanging around on your drive while it's picked over,I would just sell it and aim a bit higher on the price and get a number closer to what you were thinking of, it's a pity to see another one bite the dust, but I've just picked up a bill for £1700 to repair a rotten windscreen recess and as usual the rust had spread,so most of the front of the car has had to be removed for welding /painting access, plus the new screen. So yes, I should have scrapped the car and it was a close call..really close! but for yourself your not a sucker for a lost cause unlike this numpty ::)

I have a secure lockup so no issues if I did scrap but I'm not as it literally is a great car that an omega car fanatic could fix in a weekend solenoid £70 thermostat £50? A bit of new fluid and good to go! I would keep but 3 boys under 4 I have neither now the money or a moments peace!

Sort of answering your own question in a way,do you need the hassle?,children are going to grow bigger quickly and you'll need something more practical as they will need more room, perhaps an ex police Sprinter with the lock up bit at the back, would certainly suit my grand kids the way that they tear bits out of each other :o ;D

To some degree your right, I guess that's why forums are useful to get advice and talk things through to get an answer.
I already bought a bigger vehicle today so Omega now has to go, insured and taxed till end of July so have a bit of time.

So as I read peoples opinions if I were to sell it on here I would get less due to the more knowledgeable people on forum who know what's worth keeping and what's worth fixing or giving a bit of TLC, so on ebay a better price may be fetched even though I still would be honest of all niggles etc
