My car had the same problem when I bought it the temp gauge did not work, upon closer inspection figured that the wire has come off the sending unit. It's only one wire on 2.0 and it has to be snug. You should check again.

Thanks for the advice - always nice to know you're not alone!!

Like yours the car otherwise runs/works fine - so I'm inclined to leave well alone!

Yeah, I see your point but it just looks nice when all the gauges work  :y
Thankfully omega gauges are awesome! sometimes I wish I owned Catera instrument clusters

Well - here's a funny thing........

For no apparent reason that I can think of - with the possible exception of some slightly warmer weather - the gauge now works!!

Seems stable at about 80 deg indicated most of the time, moves off the stop after about two miles and goes up in traffic - all the things you'd expect really!

Proof if proof were needed - the gremlins are still around!!
