spare keys ? MV6 3.2
« on: 07 November 2016, 22:01:57 »

I only have one remote key for my MV6 - I could do with a spare.
Does not have to be a remote.
What is the best way (ie cheap and reliable) of obtaining one?

Im gonna get hit on for this answer  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Go to timsons The key cutters with your key in hand....
get them to cut you a spare key..
remove transponder from your original key and get it stuck within steering column near ignition switch ....

You now have two keys for your car done on the cheap...only downside is (1)The key you had cut will only work in the door/ignition and will set the alarm off until you turn the ignition key. (2) you have jeopardised the security of the car  :y

Exactly: it's a Vauxhall, and new keys are readily available anywhere for a few quid. Getting a chipped key that will start the car is only slightly harder/costlier.

I agree. The risk of someone stealing an Omega is remote. Lst Omega I bought cost £190, only one key. I bought a spare from Vauxhall, with chip, cost me £60, silly me. On an earlier Omega 2.0 I did the above trick; taped the transponder to the ignition barrel, had a cheap key cut locally, then both keys opened the door and started the engine.

Then you need to go out and get A Horse shoe key Blank (below) And go and get it cut

You will need to go and buy a Transponder to go in the key (arrowed)
You will need to open up you fob to see which type you have...This one is a megamos

Now you will need to buy one of them Known to be working
And last of all you need to meet up with a TecII (with your car pass in hand) for some Programming  :y

I think that about covers it  :y

I would expect a brand new remote, key and transponder to be supplied, cut and programmed while I waited for about £100. The company I would use charge £15 extra if you don't have the car pass.

As I said previously, it's easy Vauxhall parts.

Go to Vauxhall, take your V5 and passport, they will relieve you of £120 and give you a new key, and car pass. :o

They are selling for that low already back in the UK? Is this for a car with a MOT and fully road worthy? Probably a 2.0 I presume?

Here if you have hopes to get a nice one you can pay upwards of 4K for a V6.  Some really mint and special examples can be upwards of 10K!

Go on UK Auto Trader, that will give you a good idea of how much, or little, they go for over here in the UK. :y

I wouldn't pay more than £40 myself, using GM fobs and pattern key/transponder.  But then programming is free to me ;D
