Took one of my step daughters over very near Stemo land[and a little village called Jump]yesterday afternoon to pick up her new car.It's an '03 plate Laguna estate 3L V6,seems a posh version with built in sat nav,leather seats and such.Is there anything-other than it's French-that she [probably meaning me!] should be aware of on these?It's an automatic where if you put car in D then nudge stick over towards passenger side it says M with a + and - sign.Presumably it's a belt and not a chain engine?Just in case I've told her to check any history/invoices to see if there's any indication of a belt change.I don't know what mileage it's covered.

The cam is belt driven, and is an expensive job at Renault - find a specialist who has the kit and knows how to do the job with the engine in the car.

The credit card  sized 'keys' are easily damaged, so ensure it has two. The reader in the dash isn't very reliable either.

Don't know much about Laguna's, had a Renault 11 turbo back in the nineties lovely fast hatchback but boy was it expensive for repairs & parts, swore never to have another Renault or any French car again.

No. But it will sure be a big part of it.

Yep those V6'are belt driven.
They sound good and pull well, similar to Omega 3.2
They're reliable too. The things that sometimes go are: ignition coils, thermostats (bit of a faff to change as on most V6's) and some oil leaks.

Oh and get the ATF changed, as always when buying a used auto.

Various electrical issues on them and the auto box can be very troublesome.

When my old man worked for Renault he always advised buying the base model as they had less electrics on them.
