Front ABS sensor location

Haynes clearly had no trouble removing front ABS sensors on a brand new car:
'Unscrew the mounting bolt using a Torx key and withdraw the sensor from the mounting bracket'
I had great trouble 10 years ago on my 3 year old Omega 3.2, and Entwood suffered similarly as described in his excellent guide. I suppose the simple answer is 'rust'. Whereas crank and cam sensors live in oily locations, front ABS sensors reside in cast iton holes in a wet situation. Rear sensors are OK.
 I just wonder why Opel did not arrange things better. A bigger hole and grease should do it.

BM ones practically fell out, but hub carriers are aluminium rather than steel...

Consider how many need to be changed, and how many last the life of the car.


And if it is knackered, a few minutes with a drill and a pick soon sorts the 'problem'

The same unpractical solution is used in many, many cars  :(. A little grease or soft sealant in the bore of the hole and there wouldn't be a problem, but they need to make big profit on repairs y'know  >:(

Took mine out and greased from day one.  Slipps in & out very nicely thanks  :-[

Glad to hear this as my ABS/ASC lights came on a couple of days ago.  :(  Just before the MOT as well!  >:(  ::)

You can test the resistance at each plug, both back to the sensor and to the ecu plug... any discrepancies and you'll find the culprit. Febi sensors work well for sensible money.

Any symptoms? Each sensor provides an alternative function. Bimmerfest.com very helpful too ;y

Thanks Mr F! I found an excellent guide on Bimmerfest on how to test from the ecu plug, so I will give that a go!  :y

I'm hoping it's just a sensor as I still have cruise and the speedo, it's  just the lights are on. :(
