X20Xev cams out one tooth ?
« on: 30 April 2017, 15:48:02 »

When crank pulley notch is aligned with pointer, cam marks are as photo.

When cams are aligned with mark on head .

If I am correct is it a case of keeping the crank pulley mark aligned and then ,after removing old belt , gently reseting the cams to their alignment marks ?

I think as cams are advanced, I'd be locking cams in CORRECT position, remove belt, turn crank that tooth, then refit.

But see what a grown up says

Nope you were correct , took several attempts to get it spot on I even had to count the teeth on the belts (all 168 of them)to be certain  but all is well now .
New WP fitted too , tensioned and tested several times and all lining up as should be .
My back's giving me trouble so I'll fit the new thermostat and cam cover gaskets tomorrow and button it all  back up.
Checked and found I did the full cambelt kit and water pump in Aug 2013  .Car has done two thousand four hundred miles since  ::)
The problem was solely down to me. I always thought it had lost it's edge but put it down lack of use and being used to driving my E24.
Thanks for your help.
