Android Bootloop
« on: 17 April 2017, 13:01:24 »

My phone alerted me to an available Android system update yesterday, which I went ahead with....  ::)

Now it won't boot up and is stuck on the logo screen with the 'circle of death':(  I believe this is known as Bootloop or Soft Bricked:-\

I've been googling for solutions and have got to the recovery menu and have cleared the cache and tried a hard factory reset, but it still won't start up.  :'(

Just wondering if any of you techie types have any ideas before I jump up and down on the bleddy thing!  ::)  >:(  :D

Android users do need to upgrade, though, due to a nasty little flaw of a malformed UDP packet pwning the device.

The big manufacturers have released new updates, its the cheap shit users that are butt fkuced.

On the upside, the vulnerability isn't trivial, but the details are out there....

It's an Asus Zenfone 3 Max, which was an emergency purchase whilst on holiday in Vietnam in January when my trusty old Sony Xperia T died on me!  ::)

No SDcard in it and I don't want a gayphone!  ;)

It seems that the 'International Warranty' that I was promised it came with isn't as international as I thought as Asus UK don't want to know and have told me to get in touch with the retailer!  ::)  Good luck with that then.  >:(

Anyway I took it into an independent phone shop today and they said they can reload the operating system no problem.  So I'm still having a go at Asus but if I don't get any joy I'll get it fixed, as I like thing.  :y  If I do that I'll send the bill to Asus!  ;)

Ironically after a charge my old Xperia T has sprung back to life!  Maybe the heat got too much for it!  :-\  ;D

I think you will find any flash upgrades are done at your own risk. :(

There are plenty of videos on youtube on how to get the phone working again, you will need a computer and will probably lose all of your phone data which of course you backed up before attempting the update, so it is not a problem. :P :o :o :o :o

So a quick update on this.  ::)

I took my phone to the local phone shop for repair and he had it for a week before he admitted defeat as for some reason he couldn't reload Android.  :-\  Whether he knows what he's doing is of course up for debate and I could try another phone shop, which at the moment I might as well as otherwise I have an expensive paperweight!  :(

My other option is to tackle my credit card company for a refund as they are jointly liable with the retailer, who I have emailed with no response.  ::)

Has anyone ever done this ? Any advice?  I believe it is possible under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.  :)

My Android Blackberry did this but cannot remember exactly what I did to overcome the issue. I think it was just a reset sequence with charger plugged in. I lost no data but for an hour or so I thought it was a gonner.

Result!  :y

I've just had a phone call from my credit card company who told me that they have accepted my Section 75 claim and will refund the full purchase price of the phone!  :y

Plus I get to keep the brick phone as well, so will have another go at getting it fixed.  :)

Just shows that it's always worth pursuing these things.  :y

Excellent  :y,

But.....

The moral of the story is, one shouldn't update any Software or Platform, unless you have a means or method to bak it as it was before.  ;)
