Whats the charging model difference now?
Without Premium, its now unusable.
Up until recently, you could pay a charge for app and see all non-premium caches. Now the app is free, but to use the app for all but easiest caches, you need premium. Granted, you could, if you're organised enough, print them off from the website at home, but most of my caching was always spontaneous.
Around the time this happened, I saw the drop off in activity on my caches, and notice hardly any new ones are popping up.
Obviously, Groundspeak need to make money to pay for the service, but I worry that they might have overcooked it.
I notice they changed mapping provider a while back, I wonder if the new default one is more expensive
Also, on iOS, the new (free) app is so hard to use compared to the, now defunct, old (paid) app.
Ok fair do's....
I seem to remember that they messed the apps up, the freebie one being better than the paid for one. So I guess they've just dropped the paid for one.
Maybe they were also trying to address the problem of muggles finding the caches and destroying them, which used happen a fair bit if they wernt set to premium.
Now its costs them money to find the caches they will less likely to do so.
I use the android version of the app, which imo, is pretty simple to use. My only gripe with it is , when using the compass, the screen blanks out after a short time. But theres probably a setting somewhere to keep the screen alive when either when using the compass or the app
