Oh yes, and also we only ever use "gotten" in the phrase ill-gotten gains; otherwise it is simply "got" - got it?  ::)

Ron.

'gotten' was the past-participle of 'get' in old-fashioned English; it's still OK to use, it just sounds a bit odd to most English. Unlike 'forgotten'. Who said English was logical? ;D

Americanizms,  ::), are oft mistaken as bastardisations of the Queens English, yet the reality is they use a version far truer to the original than the one whatt we use :D

The original Brexit wasn't American independence, but Henry VIII's break with Rome in 1534 which ended the jurisdiction of the Pope and the Papal authorities in England, making the country an independent sovereign nation! :y

Sound familiar?  :)

Yes indeed, and England advanced forth.

Hope this Brexit has the same result! :)

Oh dear.  All keep bulling it up and we will all be speaking American English! :o

The Portuguese have a similar huge problem. Brazil speaks a version of Portuguese and there are a lot of them! They produce soaps which inevitably get shown in Portugal and the folk there have started speaking Brazilian Portuguese.

That reminds me I must get the paintwork sorted on my cars hood and fender ;D
