Mondeo EGR
« on: 13 July 2017, 12:46:45 »

2008 Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi Titanium X

The 'Engine Malfunction' message comes and goes on the screen and yellow EML comes and goes with the message.  :(

The car starts and drives fine, the engine runs smoothly with no excess smoke, but the message seems to flash up on the over-run.  :-\

There are no DTC's on the service screen, but I havn't read the codes with a code reader.  Hopefully one will turn up in the post today.  :)

For about 10 minutes after the ignition is turned on, but not the engine this happens every minute. Is this supposed to happen or is it clicking because it's stuck?

Hopefully if this is the case I might get away with cleaning it, or worst case replacing it. :-\

The EGR is tucked down behind the engine and looks like a PITA to get at.  ::)

Thoughts Gentlemen?  ???  TIA!  :y

Yes, if the EGR was easily got at, I'd whip it off and give it a clean on the off chance but seeing as it's buried down the back.....  ::)

So I plugged my fancy code reader in and initially got 'No DTC's' even though there was a bloody big 'Engine Malfunction' message staring at me!  :-\

So after a bit of messing about ( never used a code reader before) I got into the Ford scan and found P0380 Glow Plug Control Circuit, which I cleared.  So I'll see if it comes back and will report back!  ::)  :)

The code came back and I've realised that the glow plug light dosn't come on at all when the ignition is turned on.  I always thought that the light was supposed to stay on if one or all of the glowplugs are faulty?  ???  :-\

Anyway I checked the fuses which are OK and swapped the relay over and that's OK as well.  ::)  It looks as though the glow plugs are buried under the inlet manifold, so looks a little 'involved' to change them....  ::)

Also, the nice chaps at the TalkFord forum have informed me that the click and chime that I can hear like on the video is the EGR doing a self clean cycle.  :y

Probably red herring....mine doesn't either...its too warm outside...it does when its colder  :y

Problem could also be the timer module or a wiring defect....

Check to see if any of the glow plugs are open circuit ....if their ok then...

Unless you want to wait until the weather gets colder, then you will have to probably shove the outside temp sensor in a bucket of ice to get the circuit working and then check for 12v at the glowplugs.

Luckily I don't think it's the EGR Serek, but a glow plug issue.  That dosn't look straight forward either!   :-\  ::)  ;D
