Make sure they give you a comparible hire car. ie, a large executive saloon car - Mercedes etc. Do NOt accept a micra/corsa. Why should you be less comfortable?

If they right it off, buy it back for £100. Fix and enjoy again.

That's right.  Tell them the car is an important part of your job.  You have to portray a certain image.
You could be stuck with it for a while.  Do not accept a Corsa!

I did this.  They promised a Rover 75.  Diesel Passat turned up.  Horrendous engine.   Nearly suicidal at the end of it.

Why are you buying back your own car? You already own it!  :y
Due to past experience I'd be reluctant to let my car go elsewhere to be accessed by the other insurance company. My wife was recently in a similar position and by the time the other insurers had p'd about the car had been away for about 3 weeks and was eventually returned with more damage than it went away with.

It didn't seem worth it as it was only minimal. We ended up better off as the other insurers offered us a good settlement figure plus the car.

Tough break Andy - new bumber try this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-B-STREET-BODY-KIT-BARGAIN_W0QQitemZ330053758812QQihZ014QQcategoryZ72207QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. Oh, and fit a tow bar - the last Cavalier that rear ended me lost the bumber, grille and radiator - I only needed touch up stick. But got full bumber respray of course, to take out other marks - you car should always come out better when some idiot prangs it.  Hope you're ok  :)
