Thefts of Catalytic Converters
« on: 18 August 2008, 06:46:13 »

Just watched a report on BBC Breakfast about increasing thefts of catalytic converters being reported by police forces across Britain. :o :o

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7567371.stm

So far mainly commercial and 4x4 vehicles are being targeted for the scrap value - just £60 - of these. >:(

How long I wonder before our cars, especially those fitted with multiple cats, become a target?   I will be even more careful as to where I park my Miggy! >:(

It's not just cats, A friend of mine was woken yesterday by the scrap man coming up his road shouting "old iron" and then noticed that the vehicle had stopped outside his house being suspicious he took a look out the bedroom window to see the lowlife putting his spare caqr battery onto the wagon which he had left under his trailer, obviously my friend confronted the chap who turned around and said he had knocked but got no reply which was a total lie. Anyway my mate said so you got no reply so you took it anyway  >:( needless to say he reported this to the Rozzers who promplty did nothing  >:(

Be very carefull! these are much wanted.

I have 5 cats currently on ebay and best offer on them so far is £200, which still seems below markt value for used /scrap only.

Seems there used to make platinum :y

This could well be resolved by the cost of scrap and cats etc starting to drop back down to normal now that the China crisis is levelling off

Was he able to pass on any details of the man, other than description?
If he's a Pikey travelling around, he could be long gone in a very short space of time - in which case Plod may not stand a chance of catching up with him too quickly...

Not much chance of someone nicking them off a V6 omega. Firstly no ground clearance under the car unless you are a chinese gymnast then secondly the bolts will be corroded on the manifold.
no space to hacksaw them off and in any case despite maybe being ten years old I bet the metal would be uber thick. ;D
