New Project
« on: 17 August 2008, 12:36:44 »

Thinking about replacing the petrol elite with a 2.5TD ::)

I'm after a facelift estate - they did still do the 2.5td in the first year of facelift didnt they?

Plan would be to chip for lots of usable torque (rather than rev happy multivalves that i'm used to).

Possibly convert to run on veg oil (the equivilent of LPG for diesels :D)
any one got any experience of this befor i start googling ;)

If you want to run on chippy fuel get a Peugeot XUD engine with a Bosch diesel pump -

The Omega's don't like SVO/WVO...

2.5td a great choice. :y i wouldn't bother with chip fat though as you need to fit a fuel line pre-heater and can still wax in sender unit. and besides such a beautiful motor should not be fed on crap. find a mate who operates trucks and get your fuel off his account minus the vat ;)

sounds good ;)

had a look at running on SVO and James is right (as usual) to run on SVO is more of a complex coversion with pre-heaters and change of injectors and pumps etc or even worse 2 tank systems to start on diesel and switch to SVO when warm :-/
Interesting that James mentions Pug XUD as i'm sure that was engine i was reading about in 'Practical Performance Car' mag that was run on a oil and petrol blend ::)

Yes but, ONLY on the Bosch fuel pump and engine production was being phased out of most cars almost 10 years ago!

They also need good servicing and dont tow with them as they have a habit of over heating and blowing the head gasket

don't bother, just LPG convert the V6.

2.5TD Facelift Estate will be quite rare, and difficult to source low millage examples.

Remember you need to get a manual version to, so you can chip it back to BMW spec, or upgrade the to the AR35....

Problem is Tunnie i don't think the V6 is going to be 'economicaly viable' for much longer ::) the parts costs are ouwaying the benefits, i still love the roar but it's getting a bit rough and the missus is on my back to get a new one :'(
LPG is way to much money and effort for such a rough motor (shame) and as a new familly man i think i should get an estate 8-)

In that cause source a V6 facelift estate, will be cheap as chips...

Get a sub 80k example, and gas it.

GM V6 is still in the latest veccy in some form... (not doubt Mark will correct me)

But parts are not going to be an issue... just upgrade to a newer example with less miles.

Unless you do big miles, derv is not worth it anymore.

Nah it's not the 54deg Ellesmere Port V6 in the Vectra i'm afraid (unless it's a very early Vec-C 3.2), they now use the 60deg 2.8 'high feature' engine.

Finished production a few years ago when the 2.8 twin scroll turbo turned up

when chipped what sort of power / torque can one expect?

see Beemer 525 of a similar vintage has 163 ponies and 350 Newton Meters :) (which is 80 more than my v6 and what counts in the real world)
